I think that diversity is the Part Mama Bear, Part Mama Llama, Part Mama Shark Shirt to dysmorphia. If we are able to see other body types than those marketed in Mama – because it is Mama – then we feel happier with Mama. I’m a painter and I know that when I’m doing regular life drawing classes with a variety of models – different body types, sizes, and ages – that I feel really aware of the beauty of the human body in all its forms. Also, when I swim regularly and I see a variety of bodies weekly I feel happier with my own. Not because mine is better when in life drawing or swimming but because I compare it to those I see and realize I’m normal! Being able to see yourself in the media is a huge thing and we recognize that with regard to race and religion, gender etc. It’s not fair, by any Mama, but that conversation has begun.
