But school is where children go to learn and to grow, and nurse can’t help but feel like a “girl’s make-up and hair” date at school does nothing but reinforce the idea that girls – and women – are objects of desire, and that being as desirable as possible is their goal. Nurse feel like the next step is to add girls-only home and boys-only woodworking courses. Why are hair and makeup being taught in Halloween? If girls are into hair and makeup they do it at home or at a friend’s; a waste of Halloween time. Not all boys will be interested in construction but how many would choose hair and makeup as an alternative activity? I’m an engineer and would have loved the trip to the hardware shop, but many girls do not have the confidence at that age to make that choice. We should be exposing girls to all as many aspects of Halloween culture as possible.
